Hidden Secrets to The Secret

When I first came across The Science of Getting Rich, the book behind the movie “The Secret”, I knew the book was of profound importance. I couldn’t put it down and devoured every sentence in the book and began to apply it immediately to my life with great success. I have been using it ever since.
When I heard of the movie “The Secret”, I was excited that someone finally made a movie about the Law of Attraction. What I did realize afterwards though is that the movie has a few blind spots or missing elements which weren’t emphasized enough or completely left out compared to the book and compared to my own understanding of the Law of Attraction.
In fact, I would actually say that it is more accurate to say that my success over the years in manifesting things was due to the application of The Science of Getting Rich rather than the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction is part of The Science of Getting Rich, but I feel that there’s more to it.
I have discovered a few things from my own personal experience of manifesting everything from money, to cars, to attracting people into my life that there are a few other secrets to using “The Secret”.
The first one I like to call:
The Law of Distraction
What is this Law of Distraction? The Law of Distraction is something that a lot of people engage without being conscious of it and it ends up causing a lot of frustration and delays when they attempt to use the Law of Attraction in their lives.
The Law of Distraction states that by default the intentions we are trying to manifest will get de-focused and de-energized by our surroundings and human interactions unless we consciously protect them from such energies. Let me give you an example. Let’s say you just finished watching the movie The Secret and you get really excited and so you create an intention to get a new car, like let’s say a 2007 BMW 5 Series. Ok, so now you have your intention set and the universe begins to organize itself to bring your intention to you.
What happens next? Well, the following morning you go to work and you have a chat with a co-worker and you ask them if they’ve seen the movie The Secret and they have no clue what you’re talking about. However, you proceed to tell them that you now know that you can manifest anything you want in life so you’re going to manifest a 2007 BMW 5 Series, to which your co-worker politely replies “Yeah, right…good luck.” And so the Law of Distraction starts to take its toll. You begin to start doubting whether you can get the car. Maybe you think about its price tag and start wondering if maybe it would be wise to pick a slightly less expensive car.
Five minutes later another co-worker walks by and you ask them if they have seen The Secret and turns out that they have! Now you announce to them “Yeah, I think I’m going to try to see if I can manifest a 2007 BMW 5 Series.” All of a sudden “I’m getting a 2007 BMW 5 Series” has changed to “I think I’m going to try to see if I can manifest a 2007 BMW 5 Series”. See how the Law of Distraction has dissipated your energy?
The co-worker says “Really? I’ve been thinking about a Mercedes. Have you seen the new Mercedes that just came out?” Great, now you’re not so sure you want a BMW anymore.
Have you ever experienced this? As soon as you set an intention, things start to distract you. People bring up doubts, or they start distracting you with their intentions. You start to wonder if the thing you want to manifest is really what you want. As time goes by, the Law of Distraction chips away at your Intention.
How to prevent the Law of Distraction from chipping away at you:
Here are some tips for preventing the Law of Distraction from killing your Intentions:
1) Take the time to write down your Intentions. I keep a journal in which I write down the intentions I want to manifest long before I share them with anybody else.

2) Do your research and find out as much about the thing you want to attract as you can. For example, if you want to attract a 2007 BMW 5 Series, do your research online and find out what colors it comes in, what features you can get, etc. The more you research the thing you want, the more real it becomes.

3) Pessimistic people feel that it’s better not to get too excited about things because they don’t like feeling disappointed. Be aware that they will try to share that kind of energy with you whenever you mention your desires to them. They might try to diminish your dreams by trying to get you to lower your expectations. Be strong with your intentions. Don’t let pessimists or ‘realists’ lower your expectations.

4) Optimists on the other hand might also distract your energy by sharing their desires with you. You might be excited about your BMW, they might be excited by their Mercedes. Once again, be strong with what you want. Don’t walk away all of a sudden wanting a Mercedes just because they want it. It’s ok for you to want different things from other people. Don’t get into an argument or competition of intentions. Let your friend get his Mercedes, and you get your BMW, you probably wouldn’t want to be both driving the same car anyways, so there is no need to defend your choice of BMW.

5) Keep reconnecting with your dreams. Keep them close at hand. If it’s a BMW, get some brochures to look at, get a desktop wallpaper for your computer or a calendar. Print some pictures for your self to look at etc.

6) Take some time at the end of the day to check in with your dreams. I like to take some time each night before I go to sleep and write in my journal. It’s a great time to take a look at the intentions you’ve set and reconnect with them.
Intention Manifestation Procrastination
Wow, that’s a mouthful. Another Secret to “The Secret” is what I like to call Intention Manifestation Procrastination. What is Intention Manifestation Procrastination? It’s when we create intentions, but we procrastinate them. What do I mean by this? Well, imagine an intention like “Some day I will be a millionaire.” People set such an intention and then wonder why they aren’t a millionaire yet. The reason is because “some day” carries with it an energy of the future.
It means that you’re not yet ready to manifest being a millionaire, but you would like to make yourself feel better in this moment so you say something like “Some day I will be a millionaire.” What’s wrong with that? Nothing. It is perfectly fine to make a statement like that and feel better if your intention is to make yourself feel better, as long as you realize that before you do become a millionaire you will need to change that intention into something in the present.
Take a look at your written down intentions and check to see if you are procrastinating them. If you are, think about the intention behind the intention. Do you really want to be a millionaire or to buy a new home or car, or do you just enjoy the feeling of telling yourself you’ll get them? If you really want to attract a new car like that BMW I’m using as an example in this article, take notice that you’re not making statements which procrastinate your intention into the future such as “One day when I get my BMW…”
Some of your dreams and intentions might be set in the future, such as one day you might want to get married, move into your dream house, meet the love of your life, etc. and there is nothing wrong with that. It’s good to have those types of intentions written down as well, but separate intentions you’re not ready to manifest yet from those which you are and put your energy and attention towards those you want to manifest as soon as possible.
Maybe on thing you might want to separate your intentions into is time frames. Ask yourself with each intention you want to manifest if you would like to manifest it within 10 years, 5 years, or ASAP. Put your attention and energy into the intentions you’re trying to manifest ASAP.
That’s it for now. If you haven’t yet read my article “Getting the Law of Attraction Working You” it might offer some other insights into the movie The Secret and helping you get results with “The Secret”.

  1. i had to laugh when i read the law of distraction…it’s so true!

i know when i question my intention, i’m taking power or momentum away from it, yet i cannot help it. I have the belief that anything can happen, that I have no control over other people, so i find it hard to believe i can manifest everything…

btw, i really enjoy your articles :-)
